The Nature Trail will educate people with markers on the different species of plants and flowers. Their profiles will list; their common names, botanical name, blooming time, height, spread, flower color and shapes, light needs, soil type and planting. It will also name the types of wildlife that is attracted to them.
There will be a hummingbird garden that will contain such plants for example: Zinnia, Asiatic Lily, Bee Balm, Butterfly weed and Trumpet Vine. These nectar-producing flowers will give the hummingbirds natural food. A birdbath and a Hummingbird feeder will complete their needs along with the many different trees for their tiny nest.
The Butterfly Garden will consist of plants such as; Milkweeds, Butterfly Bushes in a variety of colors, Asters, Phlox, Coneflower, Parsley, Mallows, Zinnias, Violets and Willows for example. This will educate people on the different types of butterflies along with recognizing the different caterpillars.
There will be seating areas along the trail so you can stop and enjoy the gardens and nature itself.
If there isn’t a pond already available, we will be making one at some time. Education on Aquatic Plants and Animals will soon be implemented to further enhance our education and enjoyment of nature at Kids In The Mudd Foundation, Inc.
